Sometimes the new healthcare laws can feel like a big game.  Trying to understand how we fit into these new laws can be frustrating – just like trying to hit the 100 in Skee-Ball but ending up with the 10 spot instead.  Time to understand the game!

Join us for a fun night at Dave & Buster’s as we hear from Laurie Nicolai, President of IMG Benefits Group.  Laurie will be sharing with us the ins/outs and in-betweens of the Affordable Care Act and how it impacts you as an individual and your company’s benefits package in 2016.  And of course we will have a lot of fun in the process!  Reserve your space today!

Cost is $35 – Dinner Served

NAWIC Committees 101

Did you know that part of our national agenda includes “Standing Committees” required to be a part of each chapter?  Did you know that committee chairs throughout NAWIC share LOADS of information with our sister chapters around the region and nation in an effort to constantly improve our association?

VolunteerOur August general membership meeting will be all about NAWIC Committees  – the core of our organization’s success!  We will have a committee chair from all standing committees in Houston as well as our “only in Houston” chapter committees, talking to you about what they do, why they do it, what they need and how, together, we can make NAWIC the BEST organization in the industry!!

We will also be recognizing our newest members from April – June so if you joined our great chapter in those months – YOnew membersU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS MEETING!  Invitations will be sent out on Thursday July 30th so be on the look out and start thinking about how you could be involved in making Houston the premier chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction.

Time to RENEW your membership!

By now you will have received your renewal reminder from the NAWIC national office via email.  This is your membership renewal for 2015-2016.  I encourage all of you to renew this valuable membership and continue to invest in your success and the success of women like you in our industry.  Houston is doing so much to engage our community and our construction partners and we will continue that outreach in many ways in the coming year.  I hope that all of you have found the value and return in your membership with NAWIC Houston and I look forward to another year of success for NAWIC Houston and our members!

Here are some highlights of what Houston has accomplished this year:

  • 1 Regional WIC Week Award
  • 2 Regional PR & Marketing Awards
  • 1 Regional Membership AWARD
  • Region 7 1st Place Block Kids Winner
  • Region 7 1st Place CAD Competition Winner
  • National 2nd Place Block Kids Winner
  • National 3rd Place CAD Competition Winner
  • 22 NEW members gained in this year alone (and we aren’t done yet!)
  • 11 chapter members attending AMEC in September

What better reasons could you need to renew?  HERE’S ONE!  As an added bonus for renewal – a prize will be awarded to the first 10 members who send me confirmation of their renewal. **

What are you waiting for?  Renew your membership today and continue to reap the benefits of our association!

*If you joined our membership on or after July 1, 2015 you will NOT receive a renewal as your membership is already pro-rated to 2016.

**Current and incoming board members are excluded from the renewal contest.

Please feel free to contact me or any of our board members if you have questions about your renewal.  While you are contemplating your renewal – remember to reach out to a friend or colleague that you feel would also benefit from our organization. If you send a renewal confirmation PLUS proof of recruitment and membership of a new member, the first meeting you and your recruit attend together is ON ME!  J

NEF Awards President of Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation  2015 Carol A. Kueker Construction Education Visionary Award

NEF award recognizes individuals for their passion and dedication to construction education.

ORLANDO, FL, June 30, 2015 – The NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF) awarded its 2015 Carol A. Kueker Construction Education Visionary Award to Robert M. Aydukovic, CRE, President of Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation (MCCEI) in Hunt Valley, Maryland.  Aydukovic received this award for his dedication in preparing the construction industry’s workforce for its needs today and tomorrow.

Aydukovic’ s career spans over 25 years in Maryland’s construction, real estate and economic development sectors.  He served as a general construction laborer, mechanic’s helper, cost estimator, project manager, commercial district revitalization coordinator and has experience in new business development, financial feasibility and analysis, market studies, crafting real estate operating pro-formas, risk and return models and valuations.  In addition to real estate, Aydukovic has worked with non-profits and institutions on strategic planning initiatives and fundraising strategies.

Aydukovic has earned a Master of Science in Real Estate from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Michigan State University in Lansing, MI.  Currently, he serves as Chairman of the University of Baltimore REED Program Advisory Board, member ULI Baltimore Advisory Council, member of the Michigan State University Construction Management Alumni Board and volunteers as a Little League coach with Reisterstown Baseball.  He is also a current member of the Counselors of Real Estate and an Associate Member of the Urban Land Institute Baltimore District Council.  Through MCCEI, Aydukovic maintains corporate memberships in the Associated Builders and Contractors Baltimore Metro Chapter, Maryland Associated General Contractors, Baltimore Building Congress and Exchange, National Association of Women in Construction and Maryland Economic Development Association.

In nominating Aydukovic for NEF’s award, Jennifer Sproul, NAWIC Chapter 135 President, stated “I highly recommend Bob for the Carol A Kueker Construction Education Visionary Award.  There is not another single person in the State of Maryland who is as passionate and active in making sure our state prepares our workforce for the needs of the industry’s future.”

The Carol A. Kueker memorial award recognizes individuals for their passion and dedication to NEF programs and the promotion of construction education through a variety of avenues.  The special award is given to select individuals meeting the high caliber of achievements demonstrated by Kueker.  It is named in honor of the late Carol A. Kueker, a long-time trustee and volunteer who served as president of NEF.  Kueker was instrumental in promoting the core purpose and goals of the organization.

The NAWIC Education Foundation was founded in 1972 by volunteers from the National Association of Women in Construction who saw a need for quality training programs in the construction industry.  Based in Orlando, FL, NEF is responsible for administering a variety of K-12 programs that help educate today’s youth to pursue construction careers.  In addition, NEF offers a full-range of self-study construction industry programs for adults.  NEF maintains partnering agreements with various education-related organizations that allow it to expand its offerings of educational programs, many of which are offered online. NEF is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit education foundation to which tax deductible contributions can be made.

The core purpose of the NAWIC Education Foundation is to educate the construction industry today…and tomorrow.  Its goals are to provide quality education programs for the construction industry and to promote the benefits of a career in the industry.  For additional information about NEF, including its educational courses, go to, send an email to or call (866) 277-2883.
